Farewell to Ray Chriss

Sad day today. Ray Chriss passed away.  Ray was one time president of the Indian club of GB.
He rode bikes from the age of 14.  We rode many, many miles with him on both continents on our Indians.  I visited him in hospital on Friday and knew it would be our last visit.  RIP Ray, thanks for the knowledge and friendship that you gave us.  Eddie & Anna Baines

Ray was at one time the President of the Owners club and after his term was over he joined Indian Riders Club. He also was one of the founder members of Horsham Historics.  He retained his love of Indian Motorcycles and had an open house (Ray & Caryll’s Ride In) once a year, when all Indian motorcycle lovers were invited. He will be missed by many.  Mike & Sybil DeBidaph

Having met up with Ray in his later years, we understood why he was affectionately known as Upside Down Head to his friends.  This being due to his exceptional beard and lack of top hair (always reminded me of Abraham Lincoln).  He had an amazing collection of Indian motorcycles, restored by him to a very high standard and ridden hard, accompanied by his wife Caryll on her bikes.  He came across as a “no fools excepted” character but had a good sense of humour.  One of our first shows with Ray was at the BMF Peterborough show where we had a static club stand.  Being an early riser, he was an early to bed guy.  So we left Ray sleeping with the bikes in the marquee as security whilst us party animals went and enjoyed the various music tents and pole climbing attempts. A great character, so glad we got to know you.  RIP Ray and our condolences to Caryll and the family. Anita Dray & Peter Hall
